Future of Health in Rushcliffe

The Future of Healthcare in Rushcliffe event took place on 27th June 2024 and was attended by over 100 people including 80 Rushcliffe residents.

This was a great opportunity for local people to learn, share and take away some great ideas about how to improve their health and wellbeing, that of the wider community and how to make the most of local services involved in health and care provision.

A market place session provided attendees with information and a chance to discuss with 30 local organisations who run services that support a range of health and care services in Rushcliffe.

There was a focus on the shift of emphasis to self-care, recognising self-care as a central element of modern healthcare, supported by community policies and services.

There were also discussions on Dementia-Friendly Initiatives, including awareness and education, the support systems available and ways to involve the community.

Paul Midgley, Chair of the Rushcliffe Alliance of Patient Participation Groups for Innovation and Development (RAPID)

“We had some great speakers and lots of stall hall holders. It emphasises the breath of health and care across Rushcliffe, and that was the aim of the event. It is much more about involving the voluntary sector and other providers alongside NHS colleagues."

“It’s really important we recognise the NHS can’t do everything, as it could never be big enough do everything for us.  As a community we have to build that resilience and capacity, and kindness as a community, recognise we should be looking after each other.”

The event focused on the need for enhanced community involvement, with the role of local communities and non-NHS professionals as vital for the effective implementation of healthcare improvements and more widespread good health and wellbeing.

It highlighted how consistent, clear communication and educational efforts are essential to ensure that patients are well-informed about how to access and engage with services.

The new website. www.rushcliffehealth.org is the go-to hub for all the health information you need if you live in Rushcliffe.

How the wider array of health and care services meet individual needs, both NHS and through other providers, and ensuring equity in access and outcomes, was discussed, as essential for a sustainable and fair  healthcare system.

It was a really positive event for the Rushcliffe community. You can listen to organiser, Paul Midgley, talk more about how it went and what it aimed to achieve in this short video.
